GAO holds events for congressional staff in the Longworth House Office Building. Some of these events are recurring with regular hours, while others are held on specific dates.
Scheduled Events
Let's Talk Science: Wildfire Detection Technology, Natural Disasters, and Using AI in Natural Hazards Modeling
Monday, June 9 • 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET • Agency Connection Center in the Longworth House Office Building
Severe storms, hurricanes, floods, and wildfires kill hundreds of people and cause billions of dollars in damage in the U.S. each year. Forecasting models (from sensor data) can help predict these hazards and AI can help improve model accuracy, increasing warning time and reduce uncertainty. But there may not be enough data to train these models.

Let's Talk Science: Water Rights, Markets, and Quality
Monday, June 16 • 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET • Agency Connection Center in the Longworth House Office Building
Drought hurts American farmers, cities, and households, and it exacerbates wildfires and pollution. The U.S. uses water rights and state compacts to allocate this indispensable resource. GAO experts will describe the strains on those systems, along with policy options and considerations like recycling, water quality requirements, and alternative methods of allocation.
