Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the Health Care Financing Administration's (HCFA) evaluation of the Community Health Accreditation Program's (CHAP) ability to assure that home health agencies meet Medicare conditions of participation.

Department of Health and Human Services The Secretary of Health and Human Services should direct the Administrator, HCFA, to defer any action on granting CHAP deemed status until HCFA conducts a thorough evaluation and analysis of the CHAP ability to assure that home health agencies meet Medicare conditions of participation.
