Fiscal and Performance Challenges Facing the Federal Government

This is a Comptroller General Presentation delivered to the JFMIP Federal Financial Management Conference in Washington, D.C. on May 13, 2013. Major topics of this presentation include: overall budget environment in the near and long term, debt held by the public under two fiscal policy smulations, governmentwide improper payments, strategies that can help reduce Medicare fee-for-service improper payments, and closing the tax gap requiring multiple approaches.
