Highlights

GAO reviewed the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new rule on national ambient air quality standards for particulate matter. GAO found that (1) the final rule makes revisions to the suite of standards for particulate matter (PM) to provide requisite protection of public health and welfare and to make corresponding revisions to the data handling conventions for PM and to the ambient air monitoring, reporting, and network design requirements; and (2) EPA complied with the applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
