Intercollegiate Athletics: Trends by Sport in National Collegiate Athletic Association Sports, an E-supplement to GAO-07-535
Highlights
This e-supplement is a companion to GAO's report titled "Intercollegiate Athletics: Recent Trends in Teams and Participants in National Collegiate Athletic Association Sports", GAO-07-535 (Washington, D.C.: July 2007). The e-supplement contains an analysis of trends by sport for National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) schools from the 1991-1992 through 2004-2005 school years. Specifically, we present year-by-year changes in numbers of teams, numbers of participants, and average squad sizes for both men's and women's sports. This e-supplement also describes the scope and methodology by which GAO compiled this analysis. We interviewed NCAA officials and performed internal quality control checks on the association's athletic data and determined that they are reliable for the purposes of this supplement. We conducted our work from December 2006 to June 2007 in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards.
