Highlights
The Defense Investigative Service (DIS) requested a decision concerning an employee's claim for temporary quarters subsistence expenses (TQSE) incident to her transfer to a new duty station. GAO held that: (1) federal travel regulations allowed for the possibility of more than one usually traveled route for calculating commuting distances for TQSE purposes and did not require the use of the shortest distance; (2) DIS appropriately used the Official Table of Distances to establish the employee's new commuting distance; and (3) DIS appropriately used its discretion in determining whether an alternative route was more appropriate.
