Highlights

The U.S. Customs Service requested a decision concerning whether it could use appropriated funds to pay for the meals of federal employees attending an interagency task force meeting. GAO held that: (1) there was no basis to use appropriated funds to reimburse the imprest fund for the cost of meals served during routine business meetings at Customs' headquarters; and (2) Customs should take appropriate actions to recover the cost of the meals paid from the imprest fund. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
