It provides additional data on each of the individual operations authorized to produce solid minerals such as gold, phosphate, and coal on federal lands as of September 30, 2018. It also contains information such as the state in which the authorized operation is located, the primary commodity, the associated surface acres of the mine operation, and the federal lands on which the operation is located.

This supplement is a companion to GAO's report entitled Mining on Federal Lands: More Than 800 Operations Authorized to Mine and Total Mineral Production Is Unknown, GAO-20-461R. The purpose of this supplement is to present additional data on each of the individual operations authorized to produce solid minerals (such as gold, phosphate, and coal) on federal lands as of September 30, 2018, and selected characteristics of those operations. The additional data includes, for example, the state where the authorized operation is located, the federal lands on which the operation occurs, the primary commodity, and the associated surface acres of the mine operation.
