GAO published a Quick Reference Guide that summarizes the status of 18 high-risk program areas that are considered vulnerable to waste, fraud, and abuse. The areas subject to review included the: (1) Bank Insurance Fund; (2) Resolution Trust and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporations; (3) management of overseas real property; (4) Federal Transit Administration's grant process; (5) Department of Defense's contract, weapons systems acquisition, and inventory management systems; (6) Internal Revenue Service's accounts receivables; (7) Customs Service's and Department of Justice's asset forfeiture programs; (8) Medicare program; (9) farm loan and student financial aid programs; (10) Department of Housing and Urban Development; (11) Department of Energy's and National Aeronautics and Space Administration's contract management; and (12) Superfund Program.
