Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the proportion of children in each state who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. GAO noted that: (1) states with the largest populations have the highest numbers of children on SSI; and (2) less populated states have the highest proportions of children on SSI.
