Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the operations of the Resolution Trust Corporation's (RTC) Office of Inspector General (OIG), focusing on: (1) the RTC-OIG apparent mishandling of 22 allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement at RTC; and (2) whether these apparent allegations of mishandling are an indicator of systemic shortcomings in RTC-OIG operations that might warrant further investigation. GAO noted that: (1) the actions taken by the RTC-OIG on the 22 specific allegations were reasonable; and (2) there were no indications of systemic problems in the OIG operations.
