Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the Social Security Administration's (SSA) household goods transportation pilot program to determine if the program should be implemented governmentwide. GAO noted that: (1) the General Services Administration provides agencies with household goods management services; and (2) if a current SSA contract with a firm for those services is declared illegal, the program must be modified to comply with legislation that prohibits contractors from collecting commission from carriers.
