Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the Air Force's compliance with the Small Business Act to determine whether the Director of its Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) was reporting to the Secretary or Under Secretary, as the act required.

Department of the Air Force To bring the Air Force into compliance with section 15(k)(3) of the Small Business Act, the Secretary of the Air Force should require the Director, OSDBU, to be responsible only to and report directly to the Secretary or Under Secretary.

On February 3, 1988, the Air Force took action to ensure that the Director, OSDBU, was responsible only to and reports directly to the Undersecretary of the Air Force.
