Highlights

GAO reviewed the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of the Secretary's new rule on adoption of standards for health care electronic funds transfers (EFTs) and remittance advice. GAO found that (1) the interim final rule with comment period implements parts of section 1104 of the Affordable Care Act which requires the adoption of a standard for EFTs. The rule defines EFT and explains how the adopted standards support and facilitate health care EFT transmissions; and (2) HHS complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
