Highlights

This document is a companion report to GAO-05-52, and presents the results of GAO's survey of developers and users of environmental indicator sets. The purpose of the survey was to gather information on environmental sets that have been developed and the perceptions of practitioners who develop and use environmental sets. We developed a web-based questionnaire to obtain this information and made it available to 87 environmental indicator set practitioners. We received 49 responses, a 56 percent return rate. A more detailed discussion of our scope and methodology and a discussion of the summary of selected survey results are contained in our report entitled "Environmental Indicators: Better Coordination is Needed to Develop Environmental Indicator Sets that Inform Decisions." We conducted our survey work from November 2003 thru May 2004 in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards.
