GAO reviewed the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) light truck average fuel economy standard for model years 2005-2007. GAO found that (1) the rule would set the average fuel economy standard for light trucks manufactured in the 2005, 2006, and 2007 model years at 21.0 miles per gallon (MPG), 21.6 MPG, and 22.2 MPG, respectively; and (2) NHTSA complied with the applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
