GAO reviewed the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) new rule on the drug rebate program. GAO noted that (1) the rule would establish new recordkeeping requirements for drug manufacturers under the Medicaid drug rebate program and set a 3-year time limitation during which manufacturers must report changes to average manufacturer price and best price for purposes of reporting data to CMS, and (2) CMS complied with the applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
