Highlights

Pursuant to the authority granted to it under the General Accounting Office (GAO) Personnel Act of 1980, the Personnel Appeals Board has statutory responsibility to oversee equal employment opportunity at GAO. On February 10, 1995, in exercise of that authority, the Board held a hearing to examine issues that affect older workers, generally, and those employed by GAO, specifically. Participants at the hearing addressed the role that age might play in personnel decisions particularly in the areas of recruiting, training, advancement opportunities, retention efforts, and downsizing.
