GAO issued a report entitled “Cleaning Up the Remains of Nuclear Facilities—A Multibillion Dollar Problem” (EMD-77-46) on June 16, 1977.  The Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA) submitted comments on the report as required by section 236 of the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1970 in which ERDA described the actions it planned to take in responding to the recommendations GAO made.  Since the response included discussions of some of the material and findings presented in the report, GAO submitted a letter to the Committee on Government Operations, House of Representatives in order to redress the ERDA discussions with which GAO disagreed.
